DeKalb, Illinois, was the home town of three of what Wikipedia calls 'the "Big Four" in barbed wire': Joseph Glidden, the inventor of barbed wire; Isaac Ellwood, who became Glidden's business partner; and Jacob Haish, who invented a different type of barbed wire.
